Obeying Jesus Quickly

One of the things that I need to do personally is drink more water, and when I don’t one of the signs is a small rash that develops on my skin. When I notice this, I make sure to drink water whether I want to or not, and surely enough my skin becomes normal again. Now, this rash doesn’t come right away, but usually after I’ve neglected other signs of dehydration for too long. This made me think about how in our walk with Jesus Christ because at times it takes unpleasant consequences to push us to obey God’s will.

The psalmist said in Psalms 119:67:

Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.

Out of Jesus’ love for people, He at times will bring unpleasant circumstances so that we will go back to walking in His will for us. It may be uncomfortable, but it is only to save us from the more serious consequences that will happen if we continue in our ways. One way we can avoid this is by just obeying God right away. That is one characteristic of spiritual maturity. If we are having difficulty obeying God about something, we can also pray and/or fast for God to help us and He will.

Psalm 119:4

Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.

Psalm 119:60

I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.
